This section looks at survival skills.  Throughout the term we will be looking at shelter building, fire lighting, outdoor cooking and what to do in the case of emergencies while on expedition.  This will take place in the Bluebell woods on site and will include many ‘Forest Schools’ skills.

Students will get the chance to design and build their own shelters and will learn the correct way to use knots, make sure the shelter is weatherproof and how best to cope in a survival situation.  Students will also be taught how to safely light and extinguish a small fire that will be used for cooking on in the outdoors.

Health and safety aspects of the activities will also be looked at and students will be encouraged to produce their own risk assessments and health and safety guidelines.

Lessons will be as follows:

Introduction to the Forest

Introduction to shelter building

Shelter types

Shelter building challenge

Fire lighting

Cooking on an open fire
